On August 10th, 2024, step back in time and experience the enchantment of Luray Caverns, just as it was when first discovered in August 1878.
The New York Herald once reported, “A thousand candles illuminated the antechambers, making it nearly as bright as day.” Now, you can relive that magic without a time machine.
Join us for our annual Discovery Day celebration at Luray Caverns in Luray, Virginia. This year, we’re also celebrating the 50th anniversary of our National Natural Landmark status with a special ribbon-cutting ceremony.
The festivities will kick off with live music echoing across the campus. Don’t miss the special Grand Illumination Tour, where interpreters in period costumes will guide you through candlelit cavern sections, sharing this remarkable landmark’s fascinating history.
From 1 PM to 4 PM, enjoy the melodic tunes of the trio Augusta Blue at the Shenandoah Heritage Village. As the day ends, be prepared for a spectacular fireworks display at dusk.
Come and be a part of Discovery Day at Luray Caverns, where the magic of the past meets the excitement of today. Who knows what wonders you might discover?
