Exciting news from Luray Caverns! In 2019, we finally achieved a goal we’d been chasing for decades – say goodbye to those pesky steps!

Yep, you read that right. Now, you can stroll through the entire 1¼ miles of this world-famous attraction without ever having to climb a single step.

So, how’d we do it? By digging a 164-foot tunnel right into the hillside next to the Entrance Building, that’s how! And to make sure you’re still getting that classic Luray Caverns vibe, we built a covered walkway that seamlessly connects the new entrance to the existing building. Don’t worry, though – they’ve kept the historic look of the Entrance Building intact, so it still feels like stepping back in time.

This epic project has been in the works for years, with lots of brainstorming and planning. Thanks to cutting-edge construction tech and some seriously dedicated folks at Racey Engineering and Lantz Construction, we finally made it happen. The first tour to use the new entrance kicked off on May 20th, 2019, and visitors have been loving the smooth, step-free journey ever since.

Now, Luray Caverns is one of the few underground wonders out there, offering fully paved walkways and step-free entry. So, whether you’re a first-time visitor or a seasoned cavern explorer, there’s never been a better time to check it out.
